Okay in all seriousness, this ain't some big copyright nightmare of a game, it's simply a fake game idea made as a little project in the summer of 2022. Inspired by and using - with permission - some of the code from Tozo M.'s fantastic Novae Terrae, this little number intends to bring together characters from across space and time to fight to the mothafuckin' death. ...okay maybe not to the death. We should probably get around to explainin' how to play and then get onto the roster! |

Gameplay in Synthergy is similar to the Super Smash Bros. series with elements from its contemporaries PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL added in. Up to four players select one playable character and two Assist characters before entering a match. The goal is for each player to score as many points as possible through knocking opponents out of the ring. As damage increases, characters become easier to launch but also have an increased damage output. Once knocked out, if the player still has lives left, they will respawn moments later. Players can go on the offensive with both normal attacks and their Special Moves, or defend themselves by Guarding - this game's equivalent of shielding, which instead has stages that deplete everytime someone is hit while guarding - or dodging. Every character on Synthergy's roster has access to two meters, both shown below their icon on the HUD. Both slowly fill over time, but can be filled faster by different means. The top meter is the Assist Meter, which can be filled by successfully Guarding or dodging attacks. Once this is filled, the player can then choose to summon one of the two Assists brought into the match. Assist Characters have a variety of abilities from healing their summoner to leaving hazards on the stage to even attacking other opponents directly. The bottom meter is the Super Meter, which is filled by dealing damage to opponents. Once this Meter is full, the player can unleash a Super Move by pressing B. If both meters are filled, however, the player can instead perform a Synergy Move where they team up with one of their Assists to unleash a devastating attack. Stages in Synthergy are somewhat similar in basic design to Smash stages, albeit with a small twist. After about 30 seconds have passed in a match, a sound cue plays and suddenly elements from another universe - either represented in the game or not - will appear and change the stage in some way. These crossover elements may change the layout, create a new hazard, or, in some cases, have more drastic effects such as flipping the stage upside down or lowering gravity. |
The characters here were all chosen out of the creator's interest in them. Just a heads up - many of them WILL ontain spoilers for the various pieces of media represented here! |
